About Woodbury

Woodbury is both a Town and a Village in Orange County, New York. It contains the hamlets of Highland Mills and Central Valley. The Town of Woodbury was founded in 1889 and the Village of Woodbury was formed in 2006 and covers the same land as the Town of Woodbury, minus Harriman.

LOCAL GOVERNMENT

The Town of Woodbury controls the Police Department, Library, Senior Center, Courts, Parks and Buildings & Grounds. The Town Board consists of four council members and one supervisor - each with four year terms - with two council positions being staggered two years off of the other two and the supervisor.

The Village of Woodbury controls the Water & Sewer Department, Highway Department, Fire Department, Building, Planning and Zoning. It also maintains local roads. The Village is governed by a mayor and four trustees - each with two year terms, with two trustee seats being staggered 1 year off from the other positions.

 

SCHOOL

The Monroe-Woodbury Central School District covers the majority of the area's public schools. The Monroe-Woodbury system features over 7,000 total enrolled students across all schools across all grades, K through 12. Some select areas fall under the Cornwall Central School District and are based on distance to the school rather than municipality.

SHOPPING AND LOCAL ATTRACTIONS

Woodbury features one of the largest outlet center malls in the world, the Woodbury Common Premium Outlets. It is a global destination featuring over 225 premium stores and welcomes over 13 million visitors a year. Multiple nearby shopping centers and strip malls fill in all the needs of any shopper from convenience to upscale and features both large and small businesses.

PARKS AND RECREATION

The Town of Woodbury maintains multiple parks including the John P. Burke Memorial Pool which is a beautiful swimming area with slides and diving boards, as well as Earl Reservoir - a natural swimming area featuring a sandy beach, fishing & diving boards. Both parks are open to all residents of Woodbury, and guest passes are available for non-residents. Both locations feature playgrounds, basketball and fields. UTILITIES AND COMMUNICATION

Electricity is provided by Orange & Rockland while natural gas is largely provided by Central Hudson. Phone & internet providers include Frontier Communications & Optimum/Cablevision. Select areas may also fall under Verizon FiOS for service. Television service is also provided by Optimum. Having multiple competitive options in the area makes internet service in Woodbury reliable, fast and cheap. All major cell phone companies have excellent coverage in the area.
